Atomic swaps
Swap coins without an exchange
Trade
Dogecoin,
Litecoin,
Pepecoin and
DigiByte directly with another person. No exchange holds your coins, nobody has to go first, and there's no account to fund.
Both paid, or both refunded
Each side locks its coins in a script on its own chain. The other side can claim them only with a secret, and if nobody claims, they refund after a set time. There is no outcome where one side pays and the other keeps everything.
Seconds, not hours
A normal swap acts as soon as the other side's lock reaches the network. Big swaps, and any swap with a token, NFT or ord, wait for one confirmation.
You can close the page
When you lock, your browser also signs your claim and your refund and hands them to your arcade, which sends them at the right time. It can't change where they pay.
Back within eight hours
If the other side disappears, your coins come back to you automatically after at most eight hours.
What swaps today
- Coins: Dogecoin, Pepecoin, Litecoin and DigiByte, with each other, and their test networks with each other.
- Collectibles: Doginals, Pepinals and DigiByte ordinals.
- Tokens: DRC-20 on Dogecoin and PRC-20 on Pepecoin.
- Not yet: Bellscoin (its script addresses can't be told apart safely) and Luckycoin (opening once support is finished).
Costs: about 0.01 of the coin to lock your side (about 0.0001 on Litecoin), plus the arcade's own fee if its operator charges one. That fee waits in the lock and comes back to you if the swap doesn't happen.
The ARCADE Guide (PDF) covers swaps step by step, and each coin's page lists its swap rules.
Questions
What is an atomic swap?
A trade between two blockchains where each side's coins are locked so that either both payments happen or both are refunded. No exchange or middleman holds the coins.
Can I swap Dogecoin for Litecoin without an exchange?
Yes. On an arcade you list or take a swap from your own wallet; both sides lock coins on their own chains, and the swap finishes on its own, usually in seconds.
Do I need to keep the page open during a swap?
No. Your browser signs the claim and the refund in advance and your arcade sends them when the time comes.
What if the other person disappears?
Your lock refunds to you after at most eight hours.
