What is ARCADE?

A network of computers, run by ordinary people, that host games, apps, chat and trading you can open in any web browser. Your name, messages, coins and collectibles are written on public blockchains, so any arcade can serve you.

Do I need to download anything?

No. All you need is a web browser. An arcade with a free seat will take you in, and your wallet is made and locked on your own device when you sign up.

Who holds my coins?

You do. The arcade keeps only a locked copy of your wallet it can't open, and never sees your password. Most trades settle in one transaction both people sign, so nobody holds your coins in between. The few ways of trading that ask you to trust someone are marked as such; see the white paper.

Do I have to trust the arcade I use?

Not with your coins: your wallet is locked in your own browser. You do trust it to send your browser the real page code, which runs your wallet. Running your own arcade removes that trust; Trust and verification explains the steps.

What happens if my arcade shuts down?

Nothing you own is lost. Sign in at another arcade with the same name and password, and your name, history, coins and collectibles are there, because they live on the chains.

I forgot my password. Can someone reset it?

No one can, by design. Your 12 recovery words are the only way back, so write them on paper when you sign up and type them only on the Restore page.

Are my posts and messages public?

Posts, names and collectibles are public and permanent: deleting a post hides it, but the words stay on the chain. Private messages can be read only by the person you send them to, but who sent one, when, and how large it was are public.

Why do names and posts use Pepecoin's test network?

Because using it costs next to nothing, and its coins have no market value. Many arcades give a new account a starter amount, so you can begin straight away.

Which coins does it work with?

Pepecoin, Dogecoin, Litecoin, DigiByte, Bellscoin and Luckycoin, with more on the way. Pepecoin, Dogecoin, Litecoin and DigiByte can be swapped with each other; Bellscoin and Luckycoin hold coins and collectibles. Anyone can add a coin with a pull request: here's how. See the coins and How it works.

Does it cost anything?

Every transaction pays its chain's network fee. An arcade may add an operator fee of up to 2% on trades, which is off by default.

Running an arcade

What do I need to run an arcade?

A spare computer that stays on, with Python 3.10 or newer. Setup is one command. See Run an arcade for the sizes.

Does it run on Windows?

Linux is tested, and Windows is being tested now. macOS and ARM boards should work but aren't tested yet.

Do I have to download every blockchain?

No. Only Pepecoin's test network must run on your machine. Every other coin can be borrowed from an arcade that shares it, or left off.

How do updates work?

Each release is signed, and an arcade installed from the project's download checks that signature before installing it. Operators choose automatic updates or install them on their own schedule. This site's arcade checks twice a day; its version is shown on the network stats.

Can I run my own website on my arcade?

Yes. Put a web server in front of it, serve your own pages and pass the rest to the arcade, and your visitors can sign in on your domain. Here's how; ashvale.party and this site are built that way.

Building

Is the code open source?

Yes, it's on GitHub, and changes come in as pull requests. How to contribute.

How do I get my game into the App Store?

Inscribe it as an HTML page with a card that says it's an app. It then appears in every arcade's Apps tab, with nothing to register and nobody to ask. Publishing guides.

Where do the numbers on this site come from?

From the arcade that serves this site, every 10 minutes: the mesh for the arcades, its coin nodes for the blocks, and the chains it reads for everything people have done. The raw numbers are at /live/stats.json.

Where can I leave a review or ask for help?

On the Community page. Sign in with any arcade account and reply to a thread; your reply is your own post on the chain.

How can I thank the people who build it?

Tip them from any arcade: their @names and Pepecoin addresses are on the home page.
